SKULL

The Guildhall School of Music and Drama

MATERIALS

Polystyrene, Flints Mud, Jesmonite, plaster and emulsion paint.

A rough skull shaped block of polystyrene was marked up with central points and eye socket points. The edges were then carved away to create the basic rounded shape of the skull. Once the shape was satisfactory, it was sanded down smooth. Jesmonite and plaster were mixed together to put back any poly structure that was mistakenly carved away.

Flints Mud was painted onto the skull to seal it. Then various tones of emulsion paint were sponged onto the surface to create an aged worn finish.
