ROCK (BIG)

Pinewood Studios - Creative Media Skills

MATERIALS

Polystyrene, insulation foam, Fillite, PVA glue, fibreglass tissue and emulsion paint.

To create this fake rock, polystyrene was cut into a rough shape and wire brushed to get rid of sharp edges. Insulation foam was then used to join pieces together. Once it had set, a hot air gun was used to gently heat up the surface to reduce the bobbles in the poly. To prepare the surface for coating, water was spayed onto it until it was saturated. Then, fiberglass tissue was applied to the surface using a mixture of emulsion paint and Fillite. To give the rock more depth a darker colour was painted at the base and into the crevices. Lastly, white paint was dry brushed to bring out the highlights.
